Shave Your Lid for a Kid FAQ
What is my personal donation page?
Your personal donation page is what people see when they
the Kids Cancer Care website to donate to you. This page is a place where you can explain why you are shaving your head, add before and after photos and accept and track online donations. Set a fundraising goal and watch your donation-o-meter grow!
Why do I have to say how old I am?
Due to the large majority of our participants being under the age of 18 we require your age for privacy reasons.
How do I know online transactions will be safe?
Online Kids Cancer Care donations are kept safe by Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) issued by Equifax Secure Certificate Authority. Using the latest encryption technology, this system ensures donations are safe as they travel through the internet network. Personal information gathered by Kids Cancer Care is kept in confidence.
Will my donors get a Tax receipt?
Kids Cancer Care will issue tax receipts for donations over $20. Online donors will receive an automatic tax receipt into their email inbox at the time of donation. Cash and cheque donors need to be documented on the shave pledge form and submitted to Kids Cancer Care. The shave pledge form can be found in the shave information kit or you can request one by emailing
Someone donated online to my page but it is not showing up?
Your online donor may have accidentally donated to the general shave program or another person! Don't worry; Kids Cancer Care can re-assign this donation back to you! Please email
with the full name of the donor, the amount donated and the name of the person the pledge should go to. Please allow 2 business days to reassign this donation.
My shave event was a great success! What do I do with the money I raised?
Collect all of your cash and cheque donations and match them to the pledges you have received. If there are any outstanding pledges, follow up and collect the money before doing your final count. All cash and coins should be submitted as a single cheque or money order made out to the Kids Cancer Care Foundation. Include this cheque or money order, along with your cheque donations to the Kids Cancer Care Foundation within 20 days of your shave. Don't forget to include your pledge forms!
* Please note that online donations are tallied separately and should not be included on your pledge forms.
Do I have to shave my head or can I participate in another way?
The idea of shaving your head can be a bit overwhelming, but many people still want to be involved with Shave Your Lid for a Kid®! Another way to be involved with the program without losing all your locks is to donate your hair. You can also participate by helping organize an event or support another shave by pledging/donating to them.
I am interested in donating my hair. What do I do?
Unfortunately, Kids Cancer Care does not accept hair donations. We encourage you to support Angel Hair for Kids, a Canadian non-profit organization that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to illness. Please visit the website
and select 'Our Programs' followed by 'Angel Hair for Kids' for guidelines and further information on donating your hair. Please note, even though you are donating your hair to Angel Hair for Kids, you can still raise money to support Kids Cancer Care.
Who do I contact if I need help planning an event at my school, work or in my community?
Kids Cancer Care is here to support you with your event to the best of our abilities! In order for us to do this, please email or call us with your event details at least two weeks in advance. Please email
or call 403 984 1226.
