What is Shave Your Lid for a Kid®?
Shave Your Lid for a Kid® is Kids Cancer Care’s largest fundraising initiative, raising more than $11 million since its inception in 1998. Each year, hundreds of Albertans shave their heads for kids with cancer, while raising money for the foundation’s three program areas: Camp and Outreach; Research and Hospital; and Educational Support and Scholarships.

Do I have to shave my head or can I participate in another way?
There are still lots of ways to be involved in The Big Brave without shaving! You can also participate by cutting your hair for donation, organizing fundraising activities or supporting another shavee by donating to them.

I am interested in donating my hair. What do I do?
Kids Cancer Care does not accept hair donations. We encourage you to support Angel Hair for Kids, a Canadian non-profit organization that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to illness. Please visit Angel Hair for Kids for guidelines and further information on donating your hair. Please note, even though you are donating your hair to Angel Hair for Kids, you are still raising money to support Kids Cancer Care.

What is my personal donation page?
Your personal donation page is what people will see when they donate to you. This page is where you can explain why you are shaving your head, add before and after photos, receive and track donations and thank your donors. Set a fundraising goal and watch your donation thermometer grow!

Why do I have to say how old I am?
Due to the large majority of our participants being under the age of 18 we require your age for privacy reasons.

How do I know online transactions will be safe?
Kids Cancer Care's online donation system is safegaurded by Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) issued by Equifax Secure Certificate Authority. Using the latest encryption technology, this system ensures donations are safe as they travel through the internet network. Personal information gathered by Kids Cancer Care is kept in confidence an used only for follow-up contact (such as our newsletters) and to process and recognize donations.

Someone made an online donation to my page, but it is not showing up.

My fundraising campaign was a great success! What do I do if I collected cash and cheques?
If you collect cash or cheques, you will be responsible for entering them in the Offline Pledges section in your Participant Centre. This will ensure that your fundraising total will reflect donations and anyone who made a donation of $20 or more and has provided their mailing address and email will receive a tax receipt. Please read our Offline Donation FAQ for more information.

Will my donors receive a tax receipt?
Kids Cancer Care issues tax receipts for donations of $20 and over. Online donors will receive an automatic tax receipt into their email inbox at the time of their donation.
